"Work is Love Made Visible."

Khalil Gibran

The image of the empty Chinese rice bowl is a personal symbol to me. Like the empty bowl, I am to make a space in myself to hold and partake of the truth and mystery that makes me unique yet part of humanity.

At the beginning, I experienced the emptiness as the ‘letting go’ of illusionary beliefs and material attachments that once defined me. Now, it is a constant reminder for me of the posture I need to have as I live my life as a therapist.

It is in emptying myself of judgements and pre-conceptions that I can safely and compassionately create a space that will contain all that my clients ‘pours out’ in the session.
