Ministry Work

Heartspace started as an art therapy ministry in 2006, to serve the pastoral needs of the community at the Church of St. Mary of the Angels. For nearly 8 years, a spacious studio at the basement of the church was transformed into an ecumenical space, safe and welcoming of anyone who needed a space to find comfort, support and in a shared experience of self-expression through art. In that time, lives were touched, artists were formed and many witnessed how yearly exhibitions and retreats made an impact in the hearts of individuals in the community.
This then was the desire that led to the birth of the Angelico Art Award in 2016. Founded by Joanna, the award is a thematic Christian art prize in Singapore - open to people of all and any religionthat seeks to promote creative endeavours through the integration of art and faith.

The Angelico Art Award 2020 invites artists to submit paintings to be considered for the $10,000 (open) and $5,000 (youth) acquisitive awards. The competition invited artists to reflect on the theme, “I will recount all Your wonders." - Psalm 9:2. The Award is organised by Heartspace in support of the Catholic Foundation.

The Heartspace ministry also continues to offer retreats and workshops in collaboration with missions like the Cenacle Sisters and pastoral care ministry at St. Mary of the Angels.
